Winter Walk: a Mile in Her Shoes
February 23, 2020
Since 1993, thousands of neighbors, supporters, and new friends have gathered to "walk a mile in her shoes" to better understand homelessness for women in the city of Chicago. This event takes participants on a one-mile walk through the Uptown neighborhood while stopping along the way to listen to stories of women who have rebuilt their lives with the help of Sarah's Circle. Winter Walk: a Mile in Her Shoes emphasizes the reality that women are homeless even during Chicago's most dangerous weather.
Participants first meet at Truman College where we separate into walking groups to brave the cold together. After returning from the one-mile walk, we enjoy a meal of Chicago-style hot dogs generously donated by Vienna Beef while listening to the program.
Anyone is welcome to attend this free, family friendly event. Winter Walk: a Mile in Her Shoes offers a shortened walk and special activities for children.
Help Us Fundraise!
In 2019, the 27th Annual Winter Walk: a Mile in Her Shoes set a new recod, raising over $140,000 for women in need! For the 2020 walk, we've increased our goal to $175,000!
The success of this event relies solely on our supporters stepping up to create individual or team fundraising pages to help collect donations from their friends and families.
